North American manufacturers may be helped in a big way by the Snow Lake lithium mine, and Jeep plans on being all electric in Europe by 2030.

The main component of an electric car – the battery – is vital to its existence. As such, it is vital to be able to make, service, and replace batteries in the future. Lithium is a “critical raw material” needed for the manufacture of battery components, and finding additional mines for this material is critical to the future of EV’s. Thankfully a mine called Snow Lake in Canada is said to have enough lithium to make half a million car batteries per year.

This discovery represents a larger issue at hand. This mine can fulfill the needs of 500,000 cars annually. It sounds like a lot. But according to BestSellingCars, over 50,000,000 cars were sold in 2021, arguably a slump year in sales given economic conditions and supply chain issues. So just one mine cam muster up less than 1% of global market needs. Seems like a search for lithium is in order.

Jeep commits to 100% EV cars in Europe by 2030.

Jeep’s newest all electric models will be revealed within the next few years. On Jeep’s Youtube channel, the company announced that by 2025, a quartet of all electric models will debut. For now we know if three. The Avenger (shown above) the Wagoneer (shown below) and the Recon (in green, at bottom). These 4Xe models will lead the way to overall brand electrification over the next decade.

The Avenger is smaller than the Renegade and will be mainly a city car for Europe, but the Wagoneer will be a full size SUV to suit the needs of the North American market. Jeep claims the Wagoneer will get 400 miles of range, and pack a 600 horsepower punch.

The Recon will aim to bring the same kind of joy as the Wrangler, but from a ground-up EV design. All wheel drive will be standard, of course, and yes, you can take the doors off. Range isn’t as important as off-road prowess, and Jeep promises that this will be impressively capable.
