If there are only marks present that would be made by tightening the hex, then it's likely the original. If there are marks that would be made from loosening, then it's likely been replaced.

To add a spare, you can either purchase a compact spare tire kit specifically designed for the Escape or use a full-size spare from another model, depending on your preference. Keep in mind that if you go for a full-size spare, it may take up more space in the cargo area.
