New EV Testing Facility for Jaguar Land Rover, Grand Cherokee 4xe Lands In UK

Electromagnetic Compatibility is in Jaguar Land Rover’s EV future and UK orders start for the Grand Cherokee 4xe.

Electric cars are making great strides in all automotive sectors. But there’s one area where auto makers have to pay attention, and that’s electrical interference. Every electrical component produces interference of some magnitude, but it has to be limited when working in conjunction with other devices. Jaguar Land Rover‘s new facility will open in Gaydon, UK and will make sure that components to new vehicles don’t emit unwanted interference, but also, don’t accept that interference, either.

With the number of components that speak to each other wirelessly, this new test facility will ensure all connectivity and smart features will work as planned. Jeeps are uniquely American, but the nameplate is a worldwide brand. And over in the UK, the plug-in hybrid Grand Cherokee 4xe is now available to be ordered. Packaged offered include Limited, Overland, Trailhawk, and the ultimate package, Summit Reserve.

As the first plug-in hybrid Grand Cherokee, the 4xe is a showcase of Jeep’s move toward electrification. But also signals a bigger brand growth that lay ahead. Typically for the US market, Jeeps have had an iconic image of off-road ruggedness. But they were built for American drivers. With electrification on board, the Grand Cherokee is now conscious of the environment and will be able to go head to head with other luxury off-road vehicles.

While it’s not a fully electric version, the 4xe Grand Cherokee is a significant step in the right direction for the brand, and will allow enthusiasts to see that electrification has a place in the off-road world. After all, the most challenging terrain requires low-end torque, which is exactly what electric motors have to offer.
