GMC Hummer EV Put To Test by TFLtruck

The Edition 1 variant of GM’s electric SUT gets a $112,595 price tag, but the company will introduce more competitively priced variants down the line.

The launch date of the much-awaited Hummer EV is fast approaching, and along with it, anticipation for GMC’s forthcoming battery-only SUV is also growing. Well, Roman Mica from TFLtruck recently became the envy of enthusiasts around the world, as he got a chance to get behind the wheel of a pre-production prototype of the Hummer EV. Mica even took the Hummer EV off-roading at General Motors’ Milford proving grounds.

For the uninitiated, the 2022 Hummer EV will go on sale later in the year. GMC will initially offer Edition 1 variants of the electric Hummer truck. Edition 1 gets a $112,595 price tag, but GM will introduce more competitively priced variants of the battery-only pickup down the line. The pre-production prototype that Mica got to drive offers 18 different camera views, which also includes a shot of the SUT’s underbody.

The TFLtruck publisher also got to test out some other exciting features of the Hummer EV SUT. “Well, it’s got a thing called crab mode. In essence, the front wheels, and get this, the rear wheels also steer up to 10 degrees, and they can either steer in phase or out of phase,” explains Mica.

Mica confirms that General Motors’ battery-electric pickup is a capable off-roader.

GMC’s Ultium battery pack will power the drivetrain of the Hummer EV. The electric truck gets a tri-motor setup which produces 1000 HP of maximum power and 1,500 lb-ft of peak torque. As a result of this, the big off-roader only takes 3 seconds to accelerate from 0 to 60 MPH. According to GMC, the Hummer EV Edition 1 can deliver 350 miles of range on a single charge.

Over the past few months, GM‘s been sharing constant updates about the development and off-road testing of the Hummer EV. True to our prediction, Mica confirms that General Motors’ battery-electric pickup also happens to be a very capable off-roader. Hummer EV gets 16 inches of ground clearance and 32.2 degrees of break-over angle.
The electric SUT is also a convertible, and customers can stow the detachable roof panel in the frunk.

Furthermore, GM will offer its lauded Supercruise ADAS tech in the upcoming Hummer EV. GM’s battery-only SUT is a commendable EV, but many details about the all-electric truck still remain unknown.“We don’t know how much it tows, we don’t know how much it weighs, a lot we don’t know. The truck’s payload, all that is still coming, but the number that we do know is a very important one, and that is 350 as in the charge rate 350 kilowatt,” said Mica.
