Piëch GT Electric Sports Car Enters Trial Phase

The all-electric powertrain of Piëch GT is made up of 3 electric motors which produce a combined system output of 604 HP.

Back in 2019, the Piëch Mark Zero concept made its debut at the Geneva Motor show. Recently we received a confirmation from the Automaker that it is currently road testing the technical concept of its first battery-only sports car. The company has assigned Piëch GT as the project name of the upcoming EV.

The co-founder and CEO of Piëch Automotive, Anton Piëch is overlooking the project. Piëch is also the great-grandson of automotive legend Ferdinand Porsche. So it is not surprising that the German EV looks like the love child of an Aston Martin and a Porsche 911. The all-electric powertrain of Piëch GT is made up of 3 electric motors. We find two motors on the rear wheels of the sports car, and the third motor propels the front axle.

“Not only are we flexible in terms of design and body shapes, but we are also keeping all options open when it comes to powertrains. We’re starting with electric cars, but our modular vehicle architecture would allow us to respond flexibly to corresponding developments and breakthroughs in the field of hydrogen or fuel cells,” said Piëch

Piëch GT will get a lightweight battery pack that can offer a maximum range of 311 miles.

The battery-electric powertrain produces a combined system output of 604 HP with each electric motor generating 201 HP. According to Piëch automotive, its first electric product can hit 62 MPH from a complete standstill in just 3 seconds. The company also claims that Piëch GT can deliver a maximum driving range of 311 miles. Popular Lithium-ion battery manufacturer- Desten- builds the 75KWH battery that powers the Piëch GT sports car.

The Chinese battery manufacturer’s pack gets fast charging capability. Customers can allegedly recharge their GT sports car using the CCS2 charging station and achieve 80% capacity in just 8 minutes. The charging time further reduces to just 5 min if customers use a specially designed TGOOD fast charger.

The battery pack consists of pouch cells, which means that GT’s battery is lighter than conventional Lithium-ion packs. As a result of this, the Piëch Automotive GT sports car only weighs 3968 lbs. The production of Piëch GT will start sometime in 2024. So far, we do not have any information regarding the pricing of Piëch GT, but the company expects to build approximately 1200 units of its first offering. The automaker will also add a sedan and a crossover model to its model lineup down the line.
