Ford F-150 Lightning Still Had 63% Battery Life After Charging House
A house in Ontario, Canada drew power from an F-150 Lightning during a two-day blizzard. Afterwards, the EV still had 63% battery power.
You read that right. Several Canadian homes lost power during a blizzard, the residents hooked up their Ford F-150 Lightning, and when the storm passed still had more than half of the battery life. Reddit user RapsFanLJ posted that what kept the battery strain so low was how he wired the truck to the house. Instead of hooking it up to the main panel to power all lights and appliances in the home, he used two wires and a splitter to provide power to his refrigerator, freezer, TV, a few lights, and the WiFi.
The Reddit post drew a lot of positive feedback from other F-150 Lightning owners all speaking on behalf of the truck’s amazing capabilities. A Lake Tahoe Lightning owner said the truck provided essential power for three days during a horrific storm. Their 85″ TV and surround sound system and WiFi stood strong, until many cell towers lost signal. Though, the truck’s built in WiFi was still able to draw a signal. Even after a load of dishes in the dishwasher, the truck still had 20% battery left.
An east coast user claims to have used their Lightning as a power source for 11 days when hurricane Fiona hit powering only essential appliances, and that they were incredibly happy with their EV truck. Funnily enough, an owner in Buffalo was slightly disappointed their power didn’t go out so they couldn’t test their Lightning’s capabilities.
This technology isn’t exclusive to Ford, though. Incredibly, a Rivian R1T, the Lightning’s number one rival, was used to provide power during a vasectomy procedure. Though, the F-150 is reported to provide power to essential appliances for up to 11 days, while the Rivian R1T doesn’t have an exact figure for how long essential appliances can be powered.
