This poll is not clear, nor does it give enough options.

I run my HCH at 44/44.

Perhaps it is in a "Prius" forum and not a general or other vehicle forum?? IMHO, the tire pressures for a Ford Hybrid would be different from a Lexus or Insight . . . just a thought.

I meant this poll for Prius users, that's why I put it in the Prius forum. I didn't realize that drivers of other cars would come across it.

In the future, I'll make sure to be more explicit.

Pretty easy: I use the rating on the PII's tire info on the driver's side door. Can't remember what that is, but I don't have to.

After airing the tires, I set the low inflation alarm, or whatever.

The LA Times today had an article concerning the probable failure of low aspect ratio tires (.65 or less).

Over-inflating can be dangerous. I believe 45psi is max. on the Prius. We use 42/40 as recommended from this forum. I don't think it is safe to go any higher.

Don't forget, people don't enter these threads by ONLY clicking on the Prius icon on the front page. I entered it from an RSS feed. There was nothing in the question itself that specifies a Prius.

How can I find a tire's recommended pressures by the manufacturer .. are these number ingrained into the rubber on the side of the tire? Specifically, I want to see why we arrived at the number of 42/40 for the Prius?

Also, my second car is a conventional Hyundai Sonata, and I am wondering what tire pressrue should I maintian in that car?

Call me crazy (some of you probably will) but I run at 52/50. Excellent for hypermiling and no ill tread wear effects at 31K miles, after about 20k miles at the higher pressures. Slightly rougher ride and MUCH improved mpg (50.5 mpg in January to 55.5 mpg current lifetime) is all I have noticed.
