Default Self Parking

While Toyota is afraid of Americans and our court happy society having this feature, it seems Acura isn't. I just saw a TV commercial where they are selling it here.

Yeup, it's Lexus. Can't wait for the first person to be run over by this. Law & Order here we come. Yes, I'm kidding. But who will be blamed? I know, Japan.

I think I would prefer people who know how to drive a car already, get behind the wheel. Parallel parking is such a simple task (esp if you've gone to the trouble to get the Prius with the backup camera on it!) For some reason this feature [sic] on the Lexus reminds me of stories about giving driving licenses to people in their 90s who, right before wiping out a sidewalk full of people, forget the difference between the pedal on the left and the one on the right.

Be afraid. Be VERY afraid

Ahem,

I must be totally lost. I want an computer chaufeur who handles all of the car functions including driving. With machine reaction times and precision, I would have no problem taking a nap, reading a book or otherwise amusing my wife on trips.

I agree with you on that. To many drivers fall asleep at the wheel or drive drunk killing innocent people. A totally automated car would save lives, not take them. Commercial airlines are automated for take offs and landings....or didn't many of you know that?
