Default Whiny Aux Input noises...

Guess what. You don't have to buy a filter for the noisy IPOD input. There is a TSB out, and they will replace the plug with a fitered one...under warranty! Works great now!!!!!!!!!!! BTW I am plugging in a Sirius Starmate, not one of them trendy, new-fangled IPOD thingies...

OOoooh, that's hot! Gonna ask about that the next time I go in for an oil change. Of course, I already bought the filter - and it has served me well...

Hmmmm.

I wonder if they will refuse to do something about it if I already installed a power filter in the power circuit? I am still SUPER annoyed by the fact that the GLI filter that worked perfectly with my XM RoadyXT DOES remove the whine noise from my Harman Kardon Drive+Play, but it also kills all of the bass response. I complained about this in these forums, and some helpful folks (thanks SPL) suggested that the issue was an impedance mismatch between the filter and the HK's output. I ended up building a little electronics project to act as an interface between the GLI filter and the HK. It worked, but I had to power it with a pair of 9V batteries, and it did work, but I have been having trouble with the sound being garbled and distorted when I first turned the car on. (I did have a relay in it that disconnected the 9V batteries when the ignition was turned off to try to extend the life of its batteries.) I think I was still having distortion when the batteries started to discharge.

I finally gave up on it and took it out (and took out the GLI filter too), and I just deal with the whine. I hate it when I am listening to podcasts on the ipod, since the whine is very noticeable during spoken word, and quiet music passages.

I might have to have the dealer fix this under warranty and see if their filter is any better.

Does anyone out there have the Toyota fix installed and you are using this with the HK Drive+Play (I have the original one - there is a new version out now or coming soon with a color screen). Maybe the new one has a "better" output stage and doesn't kill the bass when a GLI filter is used?

I would love to see the contents of this TSB, too. Do they specify what type of filter is this?

I did not see the exact name of the filter, but there is a three-piece fix, including the plughole itself, a filter and one other component. I will call my service dude on monday, get particulars and post at that time.

Have a great weekend!

I went to TundraSolutions to look for the TSB, but they appear to have yanked everything useful from that site, including the TSBs.

I found the same thing (nothing!) on TundraSolutions. I e-mailed them to ask what's up. I'll let you know what they say. -Ed

There are three parts to the TSB...replacing the plug itself, installing a filter, and a wire to accomplish the task.

Just an update....

After tweaking the settings a bit, this new circuitry is frigging AWESOME! My Sirius Starmate actually sounds better than a CD. If you have not had this TSB service performed, do it now.
