True but our hexagonal design is to trap slush and mud.

Your design is more for rain (it looks like a palm tree fanning out)

When safety and lawyers get together, companies do some really stupid things. The game is called "CYA". It has very little to do with safety. It has everything to do with liability.

They probably will just put a big yellow warning label with red lettering on the middle of the drivers AW floor mat, saying that the carpet floor mat must be removed before installing the AW floor mat, and that the AW floor mat must be installed on the hooks. Print that message in English, French, Spanish, German, and Japanese, and the warning label might just be big enough to cover the entire floor mat. Of course, they will choose the brightest possible yellow, like a police officers rain coat.

Then some enterprising person will produce color-matched drivers side AW floor mats, and sell them on ebay. They might even look just like the original Toyota mats.

In the end, there will not be a significant difference, except that Toyota won't be liable.

I had mine replaced under the recall. They enlarged the cutout under the gas pedal and added a molded in advisory message to not place the mat on top of an existing mat. That's all there was to it.

Yeah it wasn't a big change. I didn't get them because the change covers less carpet. I'm a dirty person
