I saw the low inflation indicator light up on the dashboard.
I figured I was a little low, but didn't pay all that much attention to it, after all, the car is still under 10M miles and I checked the air when I did a rotation a few weeks ago.
I'd get around to checking the tires after I made a few stops.
I did some errands, got on the highway and realized I had a flat.
Fortunately, I was local and a gas station repaired it in 20 minutes.
Word to the wise...the idiot lights are a good thing to pay attention to!

Wow! I should think you are under 10M miles. Sure you don't mean 10K?

 

M is thousands, after the roman numeral, in some industries (financial mostly IIRC) and millions would be MM.

I learned this last week after being similarly confused

 

Yup, guilty as charged...in my industry we regularly use M for thousands and MM for Millions.
Using "K" looks too much like a charity ("...do you want to sponsor me for the XYZ Fund 5K race?")

 

mine went off twice last week and then later went off after i drove a bit. after reading this I will recheck the pressures again.

 

my experience: about a month or so ago on my way to work the inidcator came on after ~ 1/2 mile of driving from home. I pulled over right away and checked the tires (by giving them a hard kick) but could not detect any problem. I figured that, if I really have a flat, resetting the indicator wouldbe no problem as it would come one again, if I really had a flat. So I reset the indicator and drove to work, and home, and then the next day ... nothing. A couple of days later I wen to the gas station and checked tire pressure and found all tires to be inflated ok with no measurable loss of pressure over the 2-3 months I had checked them last.

Tire pressure indicators helped me big time on my last vehicle (BMW X5) when I got a flat in the middle of the freeway during a 500 mile trip. I find them absolutely great.

I'm not sure that I trust the TCH's ones now, I have to bring my car into service (10k) within hte next few days and probably will bring this up with the dealer

 

I learned something new. I come from the scientific world where M (Mega) is millions and K (Kilo) is thousands.

 

Just an interesting factoid I found wandering through the Mitchell online manuals: The TPMS includes the spare tire. It was one of those "Aha!" moments when I saw that! It's too easy to forget that one. Out of sight, out of mind.

 

That may be true on some vehicles, however, I don't believe that is true on the TCH.

From page 170, paragraph 3 of the 2007 TCH Owner's Manual

"... The compact spare tire is not equiped with the tire pressure warnig valve and transmitter...."

So, everyone remember to check your spare tire's air pressure periodicaly.
