Tested TCH for mpg after fillup. 2.4 miles traveled
Tried something today. Filled the tank. Trip home is 2.4 miles. Kept it in electric as much as possible. On side streets was moving about 12 to 15 mph. Used gas & electric combo for a 100 ft or so on one hill. After backing in yard, mpg was 58.8. Driving like this all the time would start many road rages confrontations. Just goes to show what can be done when no traffic and one drives a car like it can be driven.

Follow up on a later drive after parking at 58.8 mpg.
Started tch up and immediately lost several mpg's. At main drag was down to a bit under 41. Eight miles later,at a drive thru for a coffee, it was 34.6. On the return trip to home, mostly downhill managed to get it up to 39.1. Always trying to get the EXCELLENT on shutoff. The 39 mpg will be gone as soon as wife goes out on her runs tomorrow AM. Want her to drive like she always does and not be concerned with "misering" the gas, like me. Will be satisfied if avg. is like first 2 tankfuls of 36.1 and 35.6 mpg. Winter time, will see.
It can be a dangerous fixation, watching the mfd displays.
Be careful out there. Thanks.

Anyone else who tried a short trip to see how hi they could get the mpg avg. up to?
Noticed another who got over 60 mpg on the Jersey trnpk. Nine miler.
The 58.8 trip made. Be real hard to challenge it for me. No traffic on side streets. The main drag, the cars ahead of me were travelling the speed limit, 40 mph. Probably hit it at just the right time.

The gas station is 2.4 miles from my house down a 35mph road that is sometimes empty. I've done what you have done and pegged the MFD MPG at 99mpg.

Should have added in my original post. Main drag before side streets is posted 40 mph and about 1 and 3/4 miles long. Was keeping up with cars in front, using cc.
Hamm, my 2.4 miles has 3 hills, length are 250 yds on first. Other 2, are 1/4 mile long, all 3 hills have a grade of 6 to 8%. Three hills naturally have downhill sections and posted speed is 40 mph. Used CC for the 1 and 3/4 mile hill sections, coasting as much as possible. All electric till last very short side st. hill and gas and elec combo was used. Probably be difficult to duplicate again unless like first test, there will be no traffic on 3/4 mile long side streets to get home. (did coast thru 2 stop signs, don't tell anyone)
Wonder how hi your avg mpg's would have been if mfd would go over 99?
