I don't understand what you mean by the ICE tends to kick in more. It's always on at highway speeds.

I believe when you're "coasting" at full speed, you're in "fuel-cut mode", where the ICE is spinning but not actually burning gas. I'm assuming the intended meaning is that at higher speeds it tends to fire up for acceleration purposes, dropping from the coasting mode where it says "60 mpg" on the instantaneous FE gauge, to 30s-40s or something.

It might be more clear with the NAV but yeah on the MFD it doesn't really give any sign you're not actually using gas at any time you're above say 43 mph.
