I commute 100 miles for work and it is almost all freeway. I am considering buying a new Insight. What kind of mileage are forum members getting on the freeway? I have found lots of mileage claims online, but have not been able to find numbers for freeway only driving.

I find I get the best mileage with my 2010 Insight if I stick to the 55MPH two lane state highways. I can easily get 50+ MPG in decent weather at 55-57MPH.

On the 65MPH interstates I am lucky if I can keep it at 45-48MPG @ 65-68MPH. And that is in good weather without too much of a headwind.

I rarely, almost never, go over 70MPH in either of my hybrids. In my eyes it really defeats the purpose. If you want to go 70-80+MPH I recommend not even bothering with a hybrid.

But I suspect at speeds over 75+MPH in decent weather you could expect 35-40MPG with a 2010-2011 Insight.

 

Thanks for the info. I am traveling on the Interstate and the speed limit is 70 most of the way. I was thinking that the Insight might not be best for this type of driving and appreciate the confirmation. I think I will go with either the Elantra or Golf TDI.

 

I believe the Insight will do better at 70mph than the VW Golf TDI or Elantra . The TDI may do better over 70 mph, but the up-keep may be more? H

 

I get 55-56 MPG on the highway if I drive carefully and keep the speed in the 60-65 MPH range.

 

Just completed a trip from upstate N.Y. to S.C.. Mostly highway with speeds around 70 mph. I averaged 46-47 mpg's. Normal commuting with no highway but lots of hills will get me about 53-55 mpg's.
