Last week, I sent an email to the state senator (Clark Jenkins) that is the sponsoring the NC Alternative Fuel Vehicle Tax Credit senate bill (H1766). I received the following response:
9/19/2006
Mr. ....., this bill did not pass the Senate; it was referred to the Committee on Appropriations. This bill will not be eligible for the 06-07 Session, but can be re-introduced.

I was pissed when I found out that some other states only tax you on the DIFFERENCE between your trade in vehicle price and the new vehicle price. Michigan charges sales tax on the entire vehicle price!

Yeah, Bummer, I paid almost no sales tax (in WV) as I virtually traded even. Even better, WV gave me a $3750 tax credit!
