SSC 90L Recall work on 09 Camry Hybrid
I may be in the minority, but I declined to have this done to my 07 when I took it in for a water pump replacement yesterday. For one, I ONLY use the regular floor mats (which are held back by the two hooks in front of the seat), and secondly I have no desire to have my gas pedal hacked up and my floorboard beat down (or padding removed or whatever they do) just to create another inch or two of clearance. I've had no problems with this car in UA department and I don't see myself ever stacking plastic mats on top of the carpeted ones (I did on my old Tacoma and they always bunched up near the front, so that's a habit I broke with this car). I'm coming up on 4 years of ownership of this car and in the 58K miles I've put on it it has been just fine.
Not at all. When he brought it up I told him I wasn't interested in having that done, that my car was fine and that they were to address the water pump issue and nothing else (in a friendly manner, of course!). I just had to sign a line on the order stating that I declined to have this done and that was it. Completely painless.

For the record, and to further my understanding, I believe the dealer can (or will) swap the mats from an unsuspecting owner even if the car were in for another reason (oil change, etc.) Right?
They wont 'hack the pedal and pound the floor' without notifying you? Is this correct?
A bit leery about using them for oil changes (they're still cheaper than Firestone, etc. in my area).

I would imagine that they have an obligation to notify the owner before anything (other than what the car was brought in for) is done. I know I would be beyond PO'd if they did something without my authorization (even if it is covered by Toyota). That's why I make it a point to tell them not to mess with anything else or to please call me if anything comes up. Not sure about the mats. That seems like a simple thing to do and unless the owner has a personal attachments to the old ones I don't think it'd be a huge deal. However, I'd still expect the courtesy of a phone call to let me know.
I used to go to my local dealer for oil changes too. And I hated it when they started telling about all the crap they had "checked" and all of their recommendations. That's why on the rare occasion that I go there now I specify that nothing else is to be checked (I do my own maintenance most of the time so I know the current conditions of brakes, fluids, tires, etc..). It saves all of us a little time. It has not been an issue with any of the service managers to date.
When I just put my car in last week for routine maintenance, my dealer insisted they are legally obligated to perform this recall work on my car. Since they didn't have time to do it that day, they tell me they'll do it next time. They never mentioned I could sign a waiver. I'll have to inquire. I'm considering only having it done when I decide to sell the car.

I have a 09 with the toyota all weather mats, which are clipped in (carpet mats removed). 65000 miles no problems and not going to have my gas pedal butchered. I remember in the 80's the audi problem turned out to be pedal mix up. But all cars since then have the transmission shift lock from Park if brake is not applied.
Just had my car in today, the service guy brought up the recall and when I told them I didn't want the gas pedal hack done, he just stamped the form with the waiver, had me sign it, and that was that... It was a big *ss stamp strictly for the gas pedal/floor board mods waiver and it was very handy. I guess they are getting a number of declines....

I guess this is a case where censorship actually made things worse.
On Topic: I am closely following this thread as I will again be taking my car to the dealer for routine service (I tried one of those "quickie lube" places, and they have gotten so crummy that they are going to ruin my car if I keep going there
). I am so scared to death the dealership is going to cut up the gas pedal without my knowledge or permission that I even considered putting red Loctite on the mounting bolts and epoxying the electrical connector together so that they physically could not perform the "service". But from what people have written so far, it looks like maybe I won't have to go to those extremes.
