My father had a early 70's Chebbi Impala, he put over 300,000 miles on it before the body fell apart but engine still good. he changed oil and filter every 5,000 miles and used cheap 49 cent a qt oil like Havoline and Penzoil, Quaker State ect, anything he could find cheap. He also lived where they had real winter -60 degrees, this is not rocket science as poor as the oil was then compared to today I would not hesitate to run 5-10K changes. And as far as brands or synthetic I will not go there as it always ends in a pi$$ing match.

About the hybrid:
.............................
I looked at the list of the tanks of gas in the hybrid mileage database. The car icons at the top of the page. Many TCH's show to be broke in by their first oil change or 5000 miles. Thats when I went to the 0w oil and seemed to have picked up some mpg.
The 5000 mile oil change should be find using these new oils, dino or synthetic. There are some good synthetic blends available but i'm not sure if Toyota recommends them.

Thanks for your thoughtful response....I confess that I wasn't a member at this site until about the time of my 10K/second oil change. Therefore, I didn't ask the dealer about viscosity...I will next time. Nevertheless, I sure do wish there were an override for the automated Service Required message.
