I have to pull the key fob out of my pocket and use the buttons. - too inconvenient.
also my alarm won't go off if I bang on the car and yank on the door handle. the system is suppose to have radar but doesn't go off when I reach in the car and take something off the dash. (not worth it, if that's the case) I paid $285 CAN plus 15% tax, I can even go into my trunk and the alarm won't go off! I heard that you can't put a remote starter on the TCH. Do you have one that's a toyota part and installed by your dealer? - product code? - cost - dealer info.? tx
Actually you can purchase a Remote Starter from the dealer, I have it on my car right now. The part code is V4 price is 595.00 US. It was already installed on the car so I had no choice.

Default dealer is supposed to send me an email with info today

It's either one or the other apparently.
I have just ordered a TCH and have been asking my dealer about the alarm (thanks to this thread). I hope that Droid13's description above is correct--sounds like it would work fine if you can set it in "passive mode". The dealer is supposed to be checking with the "Camry Hybrid Specialist" in the service department who wasn't in yesterday, but he was pretty confident that this guy would have a definitive answer as he's apparently been to the "Camry Hybrid Specialist Training" (whatever that is).

I always take whatever a dealer says with a grain of salt....

but I'll post the email I receive from him today as soon as I get it...

stay tuned.

Any results from the OP?

The dealer sent me a short email saying: "The alarm is integrated with the smart key system. It will still work." From my conversation with him I'm pretty sure what that means is that having the alarm won't interfere with hands free entry (ie no keyfob click necessary).

Dealer has not yet figured out how to set it to passive mode. The parts manger I spoke to didn't know how the GBS works (glass breakage sensor works). He didn't know if a mic was used or not. He also didn't seem to know if radar was used inside the cabin to monitor zone intrusion. I am the guinea pig for this dealership. My car is the first one that they have put the VIP RS 3200 PLUS alarm into. (I forgot to mention on this post that mine is the PLUS version. I believe the only diff. is that the PLUS has the GBS.

I will get this alarm taken off if I can't get it to set by simply pushing the black button onthe outside of my handle. I"m already starting to ignore using the alarm since I don't feel like digging into my pocket. also a large truck drove past my parked car yesterday setting off my alarm. I'm positive the dealer can adjust the sensitivity though. My dealer has been great though. Very understanding, courteous and eager to please. Honda Canada has been unable to offer any technical info so far on the alarm and the Smart Entry / Smart Start system. Last time I spoke with them they told me it's not even an Toyota part and problems related to it won't be covered by the warranty. I will check in with them today or tomorrow. I have a case number. Warrantly is covered by Toyota Canada, not the dealer.

Does anyone actually have this alarm besides the OP? I'd love to see if it works right. My dealer is assuring me that passive mode does work and is able to be set...but....

The VIP is actually made by Fujitsu Ten, but if the dealer isn't willing to provide warranty support on a product they are selling and installing, I might pull it based on that alone.

Anyway, this may or may not work but something to try. Attached are generic programming instructions for programming passive mode on the RS3200 and RS3200+ (I scanned the RS3200 page, but it was identical for the RS3200+ instruction page). Fujitsu Ten had other documents specific to each Toyota vehicle, but none yet for the 07 Camry.

Give it a shot I guess, nothing to lose but a sore elbow...

OP - Did you try this? Did it work? Looks like it should work just fine. I'd really appreciate it if you would try it out. Want to buy the alarm, but won't if it won't work with the hands-free.

This is the information the salesperson gave me, which she got from the Toyota web page:

"Toyota VIP Security System offers a wide range of safety and convenience features. The RS3200 Security system with Glass Breakage Sensor activates when the glass is broken or door forcibly opened and features remote door locking and un-locking from up to 80 feet away.

The VIP Security System if so effective, your insurance deductible maybe reimbursed if your vehicle is stolen.*

* Specific terms and conditions apply. Please consult the VIP Consumer Limited Warranty card or call TMS Commercial Insurance Department at 888-238-8125."

This sounds like the handsfree feature will still function with the VIP security system.

I'm not so sure that's correct. I just bought my Camry Hybrid and asked about the alarm. The dealer (the fourth I've talked to all with the same answer) had never installed the alarm on the Hybrid and wasn't sure how it would work. The key question is--can it unlock the doors without using the remote? I'm certain it can unlock the doors using the remote (from "up to 80 feet away")....but I'm less sure that they remoteless entry will work (so that you just need the remote in your pocket to open the door).

I think the problem here is that even the dealers have no clue how to do this, though they all think it should be able to be done. Until someone actually does it...

Oh, yeah...and I decided not to get the alarm. It was going to run something like $700 after installation (seems super high to me), so I skipped it. The car has an engine immobilizer so all we'd really add by adding it is something to discourage vandalism and theft after glass breakage.

I left out part of what that saleslady tolds me about the VIP security system. Here is the rest:

"You do not need to do anything to activate or deactivate the security system. When you lock the door the system will be activated, and deactivated if you open the door with the key flop or with the key flop in your pocket open the door by pressing the black button on the door handle."
