We're using the WRG2's as a "snow" tire, ie: just putting them on for the winter months. They are very sure footed and way better traction than our well-worn Bridgestone Insignia SE200_02 which are close to dangerous in snow now, tread depth getting down.

The WRG2 have decent rolling resistance, but mileage takes a bit of a hit, compared to our Bridgestones. It's difficult to quantify since we're using them only in the winter months, but a bit. Worth it for safety, I'd say.

In Canada Kal Tire stock them, maybe exclusively. Not sure about the States.

 

Haroldo, It's not the drivers, it's the tires! It must be a bad batch of tires! We "baby" our car and those tires just did not hold up. We have run 60K with our previous cars and now to get 27K on the Bridgestone's is terrible! I will not buy any Bridgestone ever again!

One of my two choices is the Goodyear Assurance Fuel Max tire. A car magazine ad says the tire has 27% lower rolling resistance and 4% increase in mpg.

My other choice is the Michelin Energy Saver A/S tire. Readers Digest ad says it's 8% more fuel efficient.

The mid or high end Michelin's usually are long lasting tires, but are a little pricey.

The Goodyear's are usually lower priced. I have no idea if either tire will fit our TCH or not. I have nearly 22K on my oem michelin energy S8 tires and they still look good.

If you do some looking you can compare the UTQG and speed rating on these and other tires using the tire rack site.

My car (2007 TCH) came with Michelin low rolling resistance tires.
I've got 22k miles on the car and run ~38 PSI air pressure.
The tires show no appreciable wear from new.
I live in Minneapolis MN. We get a fair amount of cold weather/snow and they seem to work fine in the city..

If I were to replace these tires - so far, I would have to say I would replace them with the very same tire if I could find them.

It's my understanding that it was a 50/50 chance of getting either the Bridgestones or the Michelins in 2007. For a change - the dice landed in my favor apparently...

 

I too wonder about these tires. I'm at 28,000K with three years on my tires. I imagine I'll replace them in three years since they do recommend replacing every six years from manufacture date.

I'll probably get the Michelin as replacements since Costco, Discount Tire, and I can only assume my the Toyota service department can get them.

 

At least you can still buy USA made tires for it, my 5th wheel has the chinesecrap like 98% of all trailer tires and blow constantly. Badyear,Mitchlin,coopertrailer tires all made overseas and are total junk. i am going to go to USA made heavy truck tires and screw them!!!

 

I have 90,000 mile on my '07 now, and my second set of tires are worn out. The first set was Bridgestones, the second set were Michelins, and now I am going to try the Goodyear Fuel Max. The tread wear rating on the Michelins is 440, and on the Goodyear is 580. (BTW, the rating on the bridgestone is 260.) I hope the Goodyear last a bit longer, but if they last the same they will be a better vaule as the Michelins are $160/tire and the Goodyears are $90/tire at tirerack.

Bridgestone = 35,000 miles or $0.014 per mile for the set
Michelin = 55,000 miles or $0.012 per mile for the set
Goodyear = (I hope) 65,000 miles or $0.0055 per mile for the set

I was not too happy with my last set of goodyear tires, but that was 15 years ago, so I am giving them a second chance now. I did put a goodyear trailer tire on my boat trailer a few years back, and it has been fine, but I moved it to spare since I swear by the cooper radial trailer tires.

 

It was my understanding that the tread wear rating is only good for a comparison of tires between the same manufacturer; at least, I remember reading that on Discount Tire's website.

 

Yes and no.

While each manufacturer has their own rating system and the two numbers are not directly comparable, they are a good indicator of how the tire will wear.

Also Michelin does not have a mileage warranty, but Goodyear warrants the Fuel Max for 60,000 miles.

 

I think you overlooked the fact that these Goodyear Fuel Max tires are supposed to give you 4% better miles per gallon. That should also lower the cost per mile over the life of the tires.

It looks like you do lots of highway driving. May I ask at what pressure 'cold' do you run in your tires and if it's air or nitrogen. My findings with nitrogen, it runs cooler and softer than with air. I put all nitrogen in my new michelin energy saver tires to 44 psi 'nitrogen' to equal the mpg and ride of the 40 psi I had in the oem michelins, that came on my TCH.
