We've had our TCH for about a week, but I've already had two people that I know well ask the following questions.

1. Those hybrid cars don't go very fast, right?
2. Do you have to plug it in?

I was surprised. I guess I thought people knew more about hybrids.
Anyone else had people ask questions like this?

 

The absolute number one question for me (applied to my Prius as well) is "Do you have to plug it in?".
The number two question is "What kind of gas mileage does it get?"
Number three "What does something like this cost?"

My all time favorite remark about the TCH engine shutting off at speeds below 42 MPH: "Have you told the dealer about this problem?"

 

I've been asked....or rather TOLD
That the hybrid only uses electric power.

Does it run when you run out of gas?
Do you plug it in?

For some reason MPG never comes up. I don't think most people care that much about gas mileage until you tell them that you are getting 38-43 MPG...you can hear in their voice that they know that those numbers are a lot more than what they are getting.

I agree that the general knowledge of hybrids is much lower than I thought, yet I have no doubt that in 5 years, hybrids will be very commonplace.

When I come in and tell people what kind of mileage I'm getting I'm usually asked:

"Can you please shut up?"

Love doing that to the SUV drivers with long commutes.

 

Remember, those people who think you need to "Plug it In" know it doesn't run on gas so MPG is irrelevant.
