After numerous attempts to burn a complete dvd with the 5.1 I was finally able to get it done.

The file was obtained from this location
http://rapidshare.com/files/13127620...g.kwi.zip.html

in the down load came specific instructions on how to substitute and burn the dvd.

If you follow the instructions exactly everything will work.

I bought an original 8.1 from toyota so all I need was the old loading file.

hi,

I just installed factory NAV into non NAV Camry and have a problem. All functions work but voice guidance does not work.

What can be a problem?

Thanks,

It sounds like you might have omitted the cable adaptor for the microphone. I recall seeing that listed as a separate line item on the invoice when I had mine added at the dealer. I also have a memory of seeing someone else in this forum having the same problem, and it was traced to that cable adaptor. Does bluetooth work with a cellphone?

Yes, my bluetooth work fine and all other voice commands. When I enter a destination I need and hit ''guide'' button it only says "Proceed to the highlighted route..." and that's it. What else can be the problem?

Thanks,

I think I misunderstood your original statement. I thought you meant voice recognition. I see that you are referring to the spoken voice guidance from the Nav system. There is an opton in the setup screen that lets you turn that on or off. It's on by default, but it sounds like yours got turned off. I don't have the screen (or manual) in front of me right now, but when I go out to my car later, I'll try to remember to look for it and tell you exactly what setting it is.

Yes, please could you look it up for me. I tried to turn on and off voice guidance in settings menu but it did not help.
Also, can it be the problem that I have copy of maps dvd?

Thanks,

I have the NAV and am getting ready to purchase a Garmin or TomTom for my company vehicle. I never wanted one until I got "stuck" with this one and now I am engrossed in trying to learn to use it better. I am disappointed with the factory system and will be curious to see how the others perform. In the past I never kept a car long enough that I wanted a $1200 option to just give away so a garmin or something like it would make better sense, but I'm committed to the TCH for at least 3 years with the tax breaks so it's not that bad. I hate that I am putting so many miles on it (3000 per month, all personal use) but I may have to learn to be happy with a vehicle after 50,000 miles. If I have 100,000 on it I figure I probably will just go ahead and keep it in 3 years and pickup a nice Lexus hybrid (maybe a ES350H by then?)

You sound like me...seriously... every week, I have a 5 day, 120 mile a day commute....thats 600 miles... and that does not include my jaunts to church (Wednesday, Friday, Sunday, Tuesday) that are 8-16 miles...
Bought my car, last November, with 2600 miles on it, and now sit at close to 26000 miles...

Couple of things...

Mine was getting 37-39mpg until I hit a deer. Now I am 33-35mpg if I concentrate... The ICE cuts on real loud, and sounds labored.... and when it cuts off, the whole car shudders. So that sucks about my car, I just have not had the time to take it to a shop yet.

In regards to your car... couple of things...

Climate Climate Climate... right around 30 degrees and below, you will start losing MPG points in 2's and 3's... Engine has to get warmed up and work harder (ICE). Happens in all cars with ICE (Internal Combust. Eng.) even the Camry Hybrid.

Check your tire pressure. Also, for good measure, check your shocks, make sure the rears are not down, thus elevating the front of the car, which increases wind resistance.

I am not positive, but, perhaps, around this time of the year, OIL companies start winterizing their OIL.... this could lead to some changes as well.
