Michelin Energy Saver AS

Re: Michelin Energy Saver AS
Acee,
I check the tread wear each time I rotate the tires. So far, the tread depth has remained constant left, right and center of the tread for both this set and the OEM tires. The OEM Bridgestones that most owners needed to replace at less than 30,000 miles went to 39,000 miles on my car, were replaced at 4/32 of tread left, had even wear across the tread and I expect the same results from these AS tires.

Re: Michelin Energy Saver AS
I looked up the specs on the michelin energy saver a/s tires vs the oem bridgestone turanza EL400-02 tires. I also included UTQG for the oem energy mxv4 S8 tires.
energy saver a/s - 480
energy mxv4 S8 - 440
bridgestone turanza - 260
EL400-02
Percentage wise the saver a/s tires shows to be 1.846% longer lasting than the Turanzas. The saver a/s tires is 1.09% better than the oem mxv4 S8 tires.
That would figure the energy saver a/s tires should last to just under 72,000 miles compared to your 39,000 mile turanza tires. Good inflation and driving like you did on the oem tires should do the trick.
I got 75,000 miles out of a pair of michelins made in Canada. I like them so well I bought another set and kept them till 72,000 miles. A new michelin tire had came out and I was anxious to try a set for a long vacation.
I never was good at math, I made about the same grades as the boy that sat in front of me in school. lol

Not digital, but a very accurate dial indicator gauge. I looked for a few days and liked the price on this one. You twist the dial to zero, then take your reading.
I have my tires balanced and rotated at Walmart. Not always that good of quality, but they do print the current tread depth on the receipt. I have mine done ever 5000 miles. I do my own oil changes and recheck to see if the tires are wearing properly across the tire.

Re: Michelin Energy Saver AS
And my experience with Bridgestone/Firestones was life threatening (literally).
So, when I found some Camry Hybrids on the Dealer's lot with Michelins and some with Bridgestones, you can guess which one I picked.
At only 8,000 miles, I really do not have significant wear yet. I keep 40 psi, and what little wear I have is noticeable mostly at the edges -not at the center of the tread - indicating that the 40 psi is not too high for tread wear purposes.

Acee,
For the tread depth gauge, I use this one:
Blue Point Tread Depth Gauge
And for tire pressure, I use this one as it is calibrated to the nearest 1/10 of pound:
Accutire Pressure Gauge
They can be found cheaper at most Northern Tool stores but I happened to be on AutoGeek buying some more detailing supplies...

Re: Michelin Energy Saver AS
Thanks Rburt and Georgia,
I'll look at those gauges and decide. I've been running my tires at 34. I just changed the oil and rotated the tires(Bridgestones) last week at 5400 miles. I was waiting for a warm day so the mileage crept up a bit.
