Interesting numbers
On the interstate last night, I recorded some pretty interesting numbers:
65mph 38.5mpg average for 1.688 gallons per hour
70mph 37.5mpg average for 1.866 gallons per hour
My trip was 40 miles so:
65mph: 36 minutes, 1.03 gallons
70mph: 34 minutes, 1.06 gallons
I'm still fascinated by the numbers I'm getting, my old truck would have used 1/4 of a tank for this trip.

One of the things I am finding interesting is the change in driving habits I use with the TCH. I have a hunch that if you apply the same techniques on regular ICE vehicles you can increase MPG on them also. I have an 04 Sienna XLE and on the next trip we take I'm going to try some of the same things I'm doing with the Camry Hybrid and see if it helps.
THat gauge that shows your mpg? I watch it while I drive and accordingly, it now governs how I depress the gas pedal...its kindof amazing to see how your habits affect gas mileage and agree limiting stomping on gas of a typical ICE would probably also make it more efficient. Its like some kind of game now to see how much mileage I can get. Passes the time.
One of the biggest changes I've made which helps mpg a lot is to increase following distance. In stop-and-go traffic, which I am in every day, I let the guy in front of me go out 4-5 car lengths before I do much of anything, then if I see he's stopping again (which is 95% of the time) I'll just coast along in E mode. Before, I was like everyone else going through the accelerate-slowdown cycle to stay right behind the car in front. I'm sure the car behind me is irritated at times, but I pretty much ignore it. Where are they going to go anyway?...another 100ft before they have to stop again? My theory is that if everyone had a mpg gauge they would be doing the same thing I am and traffic would flow much smoother. Just shows how impatient most people are.

Try to back off to below 65mph if you can and your mpg will really jump...
I found that cruising in my HCH2 - steady and no faster than the speed limit helps.
my lic plate is 1 GPH
yep --> trucks+70mph = nfg mpg
