My brother has a new Sienna and it gets dinged and scratched easy too.

Paint just isn't as durable though less environmentally toxic.

Go ***** at the environmentalists as they are responsible for the new paint that does not have lead in and other good ingrediants for durability. I don't give a chit if it is house paint, auto paint, boat paint, it is all gone way downhill the last couple years due to the EPA!!!!

Do you have any evidence or is this just one of the things that gets repeated often enough that it becomes "true?"

Squint,

The new paints are water solvent based to eliminate as many VOC components as possible. This is just the price we have to pay in our more "enlightened" times. I wish we could have some of the Ceramiclear finishes that the German and Italian companies use but I'm afraid the price might go up just a bit with those.

At least the aftermarket can still use reducer based paints

Yeah, I agree with the quality in Toyota paints is very poor. The darker colors: black, grey, red are a pain to keep scratch free. I prep new cars before delivery and the cars that are black in color are almost impossible to keep scratch/swirl free. I know the next toyota I buy it will be a "lighter" color so the swirls and scratches will be less noticeable.

Mikie,

Remember that black is not a color. It is a part time job....
