Default Is CHAT a Four-Letter Word?

Since joining this forum (which I find fascinating!) a few weeks ago to share my experience with my new TCH, I have on a few occasions gone into the chatroom and tried to strike up a conversation with the other (typically only one or two) members there. Nothing. It can't be my breath...

Are people turned off by the whole "chat" genre (seamy undertones of predation on the Web...even Congressmen do it!). Or is it that the chat room just isn't user-friendly enough to bother with? Or something else?

I feel the chat capability on this site could be used to effectively hold larger conversations on popular topics (like oil, tires, controls, etc). While these conversations are typically developed in threads, chat allows for exchange of information more in "real time." A similar discussion in a thread can take days to develop (is this "unreal time"?).

I realize that having an effective chat on a subject would take some planning...people would have to know ahead of time when the session would be and what is being discussed. But it could work...

Anyone else have any experience with the chat room on this site? Anybody visited or held a meaningful conversation there? Any tips on how to use it better than at least I have seen? Or am I wasting my time?

You can post replies here, or chat with me...I will be in the chat room for the next 30 minutes!

I'd join in. What we probably need to do is make an appointment to be in the room. And, we need to make it clear if that is Eastern, Central, Mountain or Pacific time (I hope I didn't offend anyone in Labrador or Alaska). I'd suggest a weekday evening or perhaps a weekend afternoon.

Anyone want to start this Saturday? Say around 5 or 6 PM Eastern?

Bill,

I agree with your observations--that chat could be a valuable tool and that it isn't used nearly enough. I'm game to join in when my schedule allows. Hope to see you guys this weekend.
