Default Catalytic Converter Temperature?

Does anyone know if there is a temperature sensor in the catalytic converter that tells the HSD when the CC has warmed up to operating temperature (and thus can shut off the ICE when possible)? We all know that the HSD will run the ICE on initial startup to warm up the CC, but how does it know that it is warmed up sufficiently if you park the car for a half hour (or less) and then start up the car again?
