Angry Caller ID Issues with the TCH

Hey, I've had my TCH for about two weeks now and I'm loving every second of it! One small issue that is beginning to bother me has to do with bluetooth and Caller ID. I am able to make and received calls without a problem, unfortunately whenever someone calls me, it doesn't display who is calling. I have to manually check my phone. BTW, I have an Audiovox SMT5600 phone with Cingular. Anyone have anything thoughts or suggestions for this? Thanks in advance!

Dear Victor,

There are at least a couple of other threads already on this and similar issues. You might want to check those out for information.

As far as I can gather, the short answer to your question is that the Denso system (which provides Bluetooth capability in the TCH) does not support all features in all phones. Also, some providers have not activated all features in their phones to work through the Bluetooth capability on the phone end.

Best to check with your phone system provider to see what capabilities of your phone are enabled through Bluetooth, and whether all those enabled features are consistent with the Denso system.

I think most problems are a sortcoming of the phone and not the Denso system. My Sony Ericssons perform spledidly. I see incoming phone numbers whether they are in the Bluetooth directory or not, I see battery level, I see signal strenght.
With my new Palm Treo I only see caller ID information if the number already has been entered into the Denso's phone book(s), I don't see battery level and the signal strenght is fixed at mid level and never changes.
So the Denso CAN support many many features that a lot of phones do not.

Would you please let us know what model Sony Ericsson phone you are using? Toyota has tested many phones and listed which functions they support. See the following web page:-

Unfortunately they did not test any Sony Ericsson phones. Would you please take a look at the list and let us know which if any of the functions your phone does not support. Thanks!

I've been through several Sony Ericssons starting with the T631 then T637 and now the Z520. Lexus web site is a much better site for listing phone compatability and Lexus's NAV is the same as the Camry's for the same model year. Check out the Sony Ericsson W600. EVERY Bluetooth feature is supported.

I did a test today and can confirm the suspicions that others have mentioned in the forum.

The CALL ID only works when you are in override mode. I kid you not. Tested it out, like a charm I get the CALLID info when I am in override, otherwise...NOTHING.

I been making it a habit to place my nav. in override during long trips just so I can access the caller ID.

i don't have nav...but i think the reality is that the system is designed NOT to give caller id as a safety feature. if i am not mistaken, it is in the manual. incoming calls show the last number from the call log...or something crazy like that.

I'm pretty sure my caller ID works just fine in the TCH. I'll have my wife give me a call tomorrow in the car and check it. I have the non-NAV version.
