Anyone having troubles this cold cold morning?
Where did you find out that the starter motor is ~ 40HP?
MG1 is used as the starter, but I have not been able to find out how much power is can put out.
MG2 on the other end has a capability of 105 kW (141 HP) but is limited to 40HP by the output from the battery capacities. But MG2 is not used to start the ICE, just to power the wheels and brake the TCH.
If we were to increase the battery output to MG2 max output, we could have almost 300HP

No, you are right, it is MG1 that acts as the starter, but I haven't been able to find it's power output. MG2 is the one rated at 141HP max but limited to 40HP by our battery pack.

I so get a kick out of these posts of "single digits" or what not. I can tell you I started my 07 at -32 ambient temp yesterday like it was 60 out. Your mileage will go WAY down in these temps but don't worry about anything else with 0w-20.

The Camry HSD was obviously a significant evolutionary jump from the prior Prius HSD design. It would be interesting to see the same comparison with the 2010 Prius HSD thrown in now. I wonder how much it would leapfrog the Camry in design now vs a sideways move to incorporate Camry improvements into the '10 Prius.
After sitting in sub-freezing temps over 12 hours Thursday night, my TCH started normally Friday morning.
I did notice my gloves seem to make the unlocking sensor in the door handle a bit less responsive.

One thing some people may need to be careful with is engine coolant. I just bought 1 gallon of factory pink Toyota coolant and I noticed it is rated down to -34F and some coldest place in US reported -47F, so either they had to have higher concentration (mine was premixed 50/50) or it could actually freeze. On the other hand I'm not sure if antifreeze would ever freeze solid and damage the engine like water, I think if it goes bellow freezing point it would turn into sort of soft jelly, not able to flow freely, but not expanding as solid chunk of ice either. Hopefully very few places would ever go bellow -34F to worry about even during this cold spell.
A 50/50 antifreeze and distilled water mix, will allow you car to run cool and trouble free during the Summer.
I do wonder if the factories add more antifreeze for the northern states. Like maybe a 60/40 mix.

I believe that the Canadian TCHs have a 55/45% mixture of antifreeze/water as standard. I forget offhand what this reduces the freezing point of the mixture to.
