No need for a spare battery. If the fob battery ever runs out you can still start the car. Just hold the fob within an inch or two of the start button.

I notice the interior lights don't come on as easy as when I first bought the TCH. We live in the country and park it under the carport. When it was new about 9 months ago, the interior lights would come on with the fob about 3 feet of the handle. Now its down to 1 foot on my fob. My wives fob works still works at about 2 1/2 foot range on the passenger side.
I think I remember dropping mine once on the floor. That may have caused my battery some loss of power. I don't think there is anything around the bedroom chest of drawers that would cause any battery loss.

I've noticed the issue with the interior lights as well, not coming on until I'm much closer than before. Also, I'm occasionally seeing "Key not detected" (while the car is already running) - if I take the fob out of my pocket and wave it around, it goes back to normal. Finally, this morning I couldn't lock my car remotely from 50' away - I have typically done so from up to 100' in the past. I guess it's time for a new battery. Oddly enough though, I've never seen a low battery warning on the display.

Wow, 25 replies for a thread about a repair that any Radio Shack employee can perform for well under $2.00 and in less than one minute (without appointment).
It might even be covered on the extended warranty!
