700 Mile tank!

Re: 700 Mile tank!
Wow! Congrats! That's totally awesome.
I'm still learning how to get my mileage up. I've been averaging only (hahahaha -- "ONLY") about 37 so far. But I'm only on my 4th tank of gas. Now you've given me something to shoot for!

Re: 700 Mile tank!
That was exactly what I was looking for!
I'm becoming a convert to the idea of lessening the brake use. My commute is much more city than highway, so I'm already a big fan of light timing. My problem is, like many other people, that I like to drive about +5, which can play havoc with lights.
Almost all of the trips I make now are coming in at over 35 mpg, with many of them coming in at over 40 on the speedometer LCD. However, I've driven enough in the tank (over half) that the MPG on the NAV doesn't vary too much. Like less than 0.7 mpg per trip. I was happy yesterday when I bumped it from 39.2 to 39.7 mpg on my trip home.
I'm thinking it will be hard for me to get to a 700 mi. tank, because of my driving style. Right now, I'd be happy to see 525-550 mi.
I'm with Khabita. 700 is now my goal!!
Cheers,
Bob

Re: 700 Mile tank!
If you have a look at Post #48 in the thread "An Unpalatable Fact (with apologies to Al Gore!)" you'll see that one can indeed get spectacular FE by driving steadily at lowish speeds. In my round-trip test runs totalling ~116 km (~73 mi) using cruise control at 65 km/h (~40 mph) I got an average FE of 4.6 L/100 km (~51 mpgUS). The trouble is that the car usually has to warm up first, the road is usually less flat, one's peak speed is usually higher, and one has to start and stop en route.
Stan
P.S. The only way to get an even better FE would be to further lower the speed. Such low speeds aren't practical, of course!

Re: 700 Mile tank!
I drove from lexington Ky to Lincoln Ill last weekend 391 miles.Weather mild and drove mostly 71 mph. There were many times i bumped it up to 73. My average was 39.2. last yr with my o6 prius was 46,same weather and i always set my cruse control on 71 on the rd.
I missed my Prius at first but wouldnt go back.
When i left Lexington gas was 2.68 on the trip i seen mostly 2.68 and once up to 2.79.The day before i got to Lincoln,Il the gas was 2.58 and they went down to 2.45 and were still that price when i left. go figure
