I have the '09 and I have been seeing an average of 37 or 38 MPG, and this is 100% city driving, generally with very short trips. However, now that the weather is starting to get cooler here my gas millage may be decreasing. My last 2 tanks averaged 38 MPG but my most recent tank is only at 35.5 MPG with half a tank left.

As mentioned above (and is the case for me as well) short trips are killers for MPG. The car won't go into EV mode as easily when the ice/catalytic converter are heating up. If the temp outside drops much below 60 for me, it takes most of my trip before I get run in EV mode much. If you use your heater, it will also cause the ice to run more frequently.

I believe that there was no change in the motor-generator specifications between years. The original 2007 TCH product information and brochures (I have an early TCH brochure) state a combined horsepower of 192. The slightly later brochures for the same model year (I have one of these too) state a combined 187 horsepower. I think that this simply represents Toyota revising their published specifications in a more conservative direction, and not any actual change in the product.

Well, take the specs with a grain of salt, because I noticed in the Toyota pressroom links provided in the few messages on this thread, we have the following:

DRIVETRAIN
Transmission Type
Electronically Controlled Continuously Variable Transmission 5-speed manual

I haven't been able to find the 5-speed manual transmission on mine yet.

Ratings for HP are at best, not an exact science. Engineers try and manipulate the test to get the HP as high as they can. Thay also have standards they must follow. You could probably get a particular engine to get more HP without much effort. I have seen the HP rating of 192 and also the 187. There is absolutely no difference in the parts used. As for the mileage i would think the 2007's are more broken in and will get the maximum MPG after approx. 8-10,000 mi. I know mine did.

Please read #14 from stan...
It was 192!
Also on toyota.com up until the 09' model came up.
After the 09' was published I was unable to find it.

Both of my 07 and 09 Camry brochure said 187HP/140KW.

I have seen some web site list the 07 TCH at 192HP, I don't remember which one it was, either Edmunds or Motor Trend. I think it is European spec TCH.

Here is the link:

I believe it is a mistake.

The window sticker from my 2007 reads 187 HP. As Stan said, it was originally noted as 192 HP in early brochures (which I too have).

Hi! New guy here with a red 2009 TCH. I just wanted to give my 0L/0s/2d about the HP ratings. Right around that timeframe the industry not only changed how EPA MPG's were calculated, but they also changed the method for measuring horsepower. As a result, the ratimgs for a number of vehicles were slightly decreased. I'm not sure, but this might be the reason behind the 187/192 HP discrepancy.
