Syriana: The Movie
So has anyone else seen the theatrical trailer to this film? I saw the trailer last week when I went to see another movie and this one looks pretty interesting. It's definitely going to have a ton of fictionalized stuff in it, but the basis of the storyline is unavoidable. The plot seems to be that we're rapidly approaching a day when the world's oil supply has peaked, and as such, control of oil-bearing nations becomes a matter for bribery, assassinations, and who knows what else. It appears the full release is a little over a week away. Anyone else thinking about checking this one out?
I'm excited about this movie. I saw a trailer attached to "Jarhead". My friends don't share my enthusiasm. They also drive gas guzzlers, and so aren't interested in the politics of oil, though they should be more than anyone else.
I'm looking forward to seeing it as well. The screen play is by Stephen Gaghan (of TRAFFIC fame). It will probably be very good and hit several groups where it hurts. I suspect it will get pooh-poohed for it's political implications in the business press and by the conservative talking heads. Partly because Clooney is in it and partly because it will surely make big oil and or US energy policy look very bad (don't know the last for sure yet though - that's why I want to see it). I will be very pleasantly surprised if this is a box office hit though.
