Exclamation Can you identify this? Please Help.

I'm sorry for the poor image quality. This was found in the ceiling of a woman's bedroom. She is in a panic and doesn't know what it is. I have NO CONTEXT for this, nor has she sent me any cleaner images.

Can anyone identify it?

I can see the battery (identified by the CR#### on it), as well as LEDs. (Maybe Infrared?) I'm assuming the little bubble is an IC. I'm confused by the "Circle in a square" item in the center.

I will not be able to see the device in person for at least 3 days.

Thanks in advance.

Looks to me to be a switch. The push-button makes momentary contact. The round device near the corner might be a noise-maker, so the person who pushes the button can know for sure that it made contact. Maybe it was an emergency "panic" switch for an old alarm system, or something like that.

Was it mounted in the ceiling, or just found in the attic?

It does look like a push button switch...my guess was the test button on a smoke detector.

Kind of my thought too - first thing I thought of when "in the ceiling" was mentioned is that it's the remains of a broken smoke detector.

okay, more information....

It was found by a 12yo boy. It was attached inside the box-springs in the top-bunk of his bunk beds. He sleeps in the bottom bunk.

Okay, I have the "device"...

After putting in fresh batteries.... it blinks.. Red, Yellow and Blue. A harmless little toy.

This came from a woman who is, in my opinion, a nut case. I wanted to give her the benefit of the doubt.. She has has me investigate two other items... One a "phone tap" that was broadcasting her phone call to a satellite. (DirecTV receiver) and the other being an internet monitor, broadcasting her IM's and email somewhere. (Her netgear WiFi router) I should have known that this too would be nothing, but the pics and location made it more interesting.

Turns out that the bunkbeds that it was found in are second-hand... the looks of this think tells me it's been in the bed for MANY years.

Thanks for the input
