How many laptop battery recalls have there been in the last year or so and everyone here is claiming that LiIon is a proven technology. LiIon is currently too expensive and has too short of a battery life. Then there are the safety precautions and making sure that the thing doesn't burst into flames. Technology is certainly a factor, whether it be cost or other factors.

If we are looking to Ford to Lead in anything we are wasting our time. Ford is still dead, Their high, legacy costs and a very long history of no leadership has doomed them to the has beens they are. The days of a true research leader, Dale Compton, are gone (NO I didn't work for Fords and no bones to pick) The technology is available, Ford is good at buying companies buy the guys that have the paten on the only so called great LI battery, The plug was availavle over a decade ago, Oh I forgot it takes 10 years for Ford to introduce a "NEW" technology thru the stream and onto the road. Sounds like getting anew medicine approved. Bet you can get a Ceo in that time or maybe more and also a huge salary approved.

They never in the last 15 years:

1. Did the research they should have,
2. They let their Sodium sulfur battery die.
3. They blindly did nothing, nothing to develop diesels for cars,
4. They constantly said "Safety doesn't sell"
5. Insufficient investment for infrastructure, could not even modernize while they watched Toyota and others build new plants fro scratch.
6. Wasted their profit from the first Taurus and let some sill redesign it into the oval loser requiring a retool to escape total disaster.
7. Overpay top management.
8. Lack ..........

Get the idea Ford is dead! Just because some Li batteries overheated that doesn't mean Ford is doing something to give their failing company relief.

If the batteries are too small it is not cancer reaserch to make larger cell they have been made by other, (probably the guys that will lead the way and make money)

They may have one last chance to do something to save their company, Where is their VOLT? Do something Ford beside being Arrogant and tell the world that your are really "Doing great Thank you very much" and then go stick their head back in the sand or someplace. I want what was once at least an OK company that made good trucks and popular SUV's, to be something that America can be proud of and it not owning Jag or Volvo it DOING SOMETHING on their own, not admitting they can't and have to buy someone else to do it. Running around and saying Well maybe in 10 years if someone else does it and we can get it cheap and and and.... Not doing the job. Ford will being lucky to be Ford in 10 years.

I would be very, very happy if Ford got it's act together and didn't end up like Chrysler, sucked up, chewed on, and spit out for tasting bad.

I had a Bunkie Knewson T bird, the original Taurus, even an Escort and a Pinto, and Cougar other than the T Bird they all were stinkers, but if they really pulled something off that was well rounded and had some decent assembly and quality materials, I would give them another chance, only one.

I have owned different 26 cars so far and only the VW Phaeton was Impressive. So I know I am not an easy sell but I have also owned 4 Nissan's and have been coming back for more.

COME ON, FORD DO SOMETHING GOOD make me proud, you are an American Company

I think Ford should develop some new adds that feature dummy's driving both a large Ford truck or SUV down the highway. Suddenly they are passed by dummy's driving a Prius. The camera zooms in and focus on the Prius, the inside dummy's laughing like snob's about that ugly gas guzzler and how superior their car is.

All of a sudden 2 trucks come out of nowhere and smash into the sides of both. The Prius is destroyed to put it simply, the Ford however has a close up focus on the "saved" passengers.

Then blank the screen and have big bold letters : SAVE GAS OR SAVE YOUR LIFE?

I think I'd be terrible, but a good way to Ford to promote the only thing they have which is guzzlers

Shouldn't that be a GM, Chrysler or Toyota Tundra . . . anything other than a Ford product in an accident? The hidden message of crashing a Ford is "Fords have accidents."

Late thought! Use a Striker, Bradley or M1 tank! In fact, have a road-side bomb go off! Excellent!!! I'm beginning to really like this ad:

"Two dummies wearing Blackwater outfits with submachine guns are driving down a street in a Bradley and are passed by two more dummies wearing Kellogg Brown and Root outfits driving a Prius. As the Prius pulls along side, a massive road-side explosion goes off and both vehicles are enveloped in a fireball and cloud of dust.

The Bradley is on its side and the two Blackwater dummies climb out and one says,

"Did the Prius have the bomb?"

And the other one says,

"No, it was just blown away."

Fade to GW Bush under the "Mission Accomplished" sign."

Now there's an accident waiting to happen.

I feel like their may be some regular posters here who dislike Mr. Bush

But why not use safety as a tool? If Ford (Or others) can't beat small cars on gas, then beat them on safety, use unethical advertising to make people feel "unsafe" to drive in anything that doesn't have 4WD, large body mass, and seating for 7-8.

Not trying to defend them or anything, I just wonder why they don't try something obvious, marketing what they can sell based on the few superior features they have.

Ultimate 'safety' is to never leave the home except in some massive, tank like vehicle. Then the cost of going from point A to B means there is no money to spend when you get to B. The money has gone 'up in smoke.' Personally, I think this is a good thing . . . these large vehicles become 'driveway art.'

I've been in accidents and had relatives die in accidents. I just can't let fear of an accident lead to paralysis or worse.

That's pretty much describes a current ad, doesn't it?

Ba-dooom-ching.

Seriously, Ford has some really great cars in their line up that are all sold outside the US. Some of them could even be described as smart, fun and refined. What I can't figure out is why they plague the US market with the loosers (Escape hybrid excluded of course ). It's like Eruope gets the great cuts of meat and the US market gets all the fat they trimmed off. If the Fusion wasn't a gas-hog, it might actually be a worth while car to own. It's not bad looking. If the Edge wasn't a gas hog, it too would be a worthy vehicle. If the Explorer wasn't a gas hog...

Do the people working at Ford not pay for their own gas???
