Diesel Honda Civic... and more.... in South Africa
Interesting article on the Honda Civic, from a South African Website, Wheels24 (www.wheels24.co.za). Wheels24 is the pre-eminent motoring news resource on South Africa on the World Wide Web)

...The advanced 2.2-litre turbodiesel unit develops 101 kW and 340 Nm of torque...
I visited the Suzuka plant and watched as Civic sedans swept off the highly automated production line alongside the new Civic Hybrid - which will not be coming to SA ..

It's been available in the UK with a 1.7 liter for many years, and they already announced the 2.2 i-CTDi Civic for the UK a couple months ago. If they can get it clean enough to pass US emissions, I'd be happy to buy one.

Yes, it would be nice to see more diesels in the US. Before they can even think about that, low sulphur, clean diesel needs to become available here, otherwise there is no chance to make it clean.

I'd take one too. Check out the mileage of the one Civic diesel in the mileage database:

Hi All:
___The 2.2 L iCDTi in the small Euro Accord (TSX here) and Civic is not the same as the Isuzu procured 1.7 L the Civic used to come with. Boy do I wish my Accord had that iCDTi for a week or two just to see but it is a mess on the emissions front on LS or not … A bit underpowered for a stick but good enough
___Anyway, the Honda diesel is so dirty on Europe’s LSD and ULSD that it will never be able to be sold here in the states as the NOx and PM are at least 400% higher then the worst America will be able to drive after this year. Honda, just like everybody else is working their tails off to be able to sell a clean diesel here in the states but so far … NADA. The Urea injected MB and Ford’s have a chance but I see nothing on the horizon for us just yet. Then again, Diesel is $3.39 per whereas Regular is running just $2.59 here just north of Chicago.
___Good Luck
