This is where education & gov't regulation could play a role. Limit the number of miles/day.
For example - 300. Cover that distance at an avg of let's say 60 miles/hour. Exceed that, and your bonus is decreased.

Indeed, And they often have unofficial "deadlines". They better get there by then - or face not getting the next gig.

 

An MPG set of gauges is not the "magic bullet" for all. It will be, though, for some. And that alone makes it worthwhile.
$4/gal won't solve our massive issues - I agree with that. But some people WILL more strongly consider MPG when they get their next vehicle, if the price of gas continues to rise.
I had just this conversion when I shopped for my last car. I've NEVER been an MPG freak before. Once gas hit $3 (Katrina), I made the leap. Before that time, I was considering the Mazda MX-5 (Miata), Saturn Sky/Pontiac Solstice, Honda S2000 for my next car. I was really looking to get another convertible (to eventually replace the MB 560SL) and upgrade the MPG a good bit. My biggest concern with those little convertibles was (and still is) their tiny trunks! I was not concerned about getting only 25-28 MPG on my commute. I am now - and have become MUCH more aware of the problems caused by our oil gluttony to boot.

 

Everybody on this forum should pray that gas goes to $4 a gallon to drive home the point at to sit in the cat bird seat to boot.

Where are you getting $2.65 gas? Almost every state average is over $3.

$2.65 would likely be the lowest price in the country.

That station offering gas at $2.65 must have a line around the block. Wonder how long the line is at the $2.30 station - must be several hundred cars long.
