Unhappy New Civic Hybrid owner

Hi everyone. My wife and I bought a 2006 Civic Hybrid a few months ago. We have about 4000 miles on it and we are disappointed in the MPG. We haven't even hit 40 MPG yet. I'm beginning to feel like I made a mistake and should have kept my 1999 Accord, 4 cyl. It was paid for and now I have a car payment!! Could someone give me some encouragment that I did the right thing.

You did the right thing.

The Civic will not get the mileage you want without you have to work for it. It provides the tools you need to get the mileage. There are plenty of threads that talk about changes in driving habits that work. I myself am getting 55 MPG in city and highway combined. I also am getting better mileage with my Escape. Don't give up yet.

Details please! Can you post information about how you drive the vehicle? Trip lengths, driving environment, speeds attained, climate, driving style, etc can have a HUGE impact on your gas mileage. My 4-cyl '02 Accord has given me gas mileage averages all the way from 26mpg up to nearly 40mpg depending on those factors (especially how I drive it!) I personally don't know anything about how to drive a HCHII, but you can be sure that others on this board will have excellent advice to give you based on your response to those questions. Don't despair, there's always something you can do about it.

And btw, Welcome!

First, make sure your tires have the right inflation, second slow down a bit, third check out other sites dedicated to driving for mileage such as.. oh... I don't know www.cleanmpg.com/forums
