Well you didn't ask me but I'll tell ya anyway. There has been a huge improvement to some diesel engines. Some diesels and some 2-stroke engines are way better now because mostly because of the addition of a mega pressure pump and direct injectors that spray fuel directly into the combustion chamber during the compression stroke. The "DI" in "TDI" stands for "Direct Injection".

JimBob ...

The new Honda diesel is indeed a peach. I've not seen it (not in the US until we get clean fuels and the bad taste of 1980 diesels out of our memory.

For a quick jolt of what is happening in diesels ... make an excuse to look at the Mercedes E320 CDI. You will not know it is a diesel when you stand next to it, nor will you when you drag race the not so slouchy E320 gas version. Believe it or not ... the diesel will 'smoke' (pun intended) the gasser in the 0-60 times and easily cruise the interstate at twice the legal limits. (oh .. did I mention doing it getting 38 MPG???)

I drive a VW ... but that Mercedes is quite the impressive car.

Is there a new diesel out there besides the old, loud, clanker that I am used to?

Welcome aboard. I'll toast you with my next cup of Earl Grey.
