Default Greetings!

Thanks for the warm welcome!

I picked up my 06 Civic Hybrid CVT/NAV/XM in Magnetic Pearl last Tuesday. Unlike many of you here and at other boards I've visited, I was lucky enough to find exactly the car I wanted (after calling 6 dealerships within 30 miles of me) the same day I made the decision which model to buy.

I think I got a fairly decent deal, but I guess you'll will tell me how bad I got screwed . Anyway, I went ahead and purchased the 8yr/100K HondaCare package. I handed them a cashier's check for $27,400 and drove off. It's COMPLETELY PAID FOR!

So far (still under 200 miles) I've been getting approx. 38mpg in mixed city/hwy driving, which is fine with me, considering I'd normally be driving my Exploder and getting approx. 15mpg instead!

My only issue so far is the XM radio that they finally installed yesterday, but that's a whole nother thread.

Welcome

How much did your HondaCare ext. warranty cost you?

38mpg? Unacceptable. You're going to have to work on that

Congrats on the new HCH! Welcome to the forum, too! I hope you find all the information here that you need to be a hybrid owner. It's helped me in many ways, and I'm glad you found us.

If you're okay with 38 mpg, just wait. Right now, still under 200 miles, your car is still being broken in, so just wait until you've logged a few more miles. You've bought yours at a good time of the year- the weather is nice and that means good FE. I got mine in the fall, and by the time I'd picked up a few tricks and tips and started to learn from my car the best way to drive it, it was winter and the cold weather was dragging me down, so I've had to wait until the past month or two to see my gas mileage shoot up. You can figure it all out and still have time to see some impressive numbers later in the year, I would bet, before it gets too cold in Northern Virginia (the weather is probably milder for you than it is here, generally).

Good luck with your car and enjoy the forum!

I am in SE PA and it is very hilly where I live, my gas mileage is on the low end. When I first got the Insight I was averaging 40mpg, now i am averaging 50, best trips of upwards of 65-70 on long flat highways. You will figure it out. In 2 weeks I will be driving the pod to Woodstock, VA, I have no idea where that is, but if you see me give me a big wave

It seems from reading some posts here and from some on line research (after the fact ), that I may have got taken in on the warranty. I paid $1500 for mine, but I've seen numbers as low as the mid 900s here, and found other "Honda Care" plans on the web for anywhere from $1200 up to $1700. I'm not sure how much I trust the on line contracts though. I'm still finding it hard to believe that Honda Corporate would allow their warranty service to be marketed in such a haphazard fashion. But, what do I know?

Oh well, I may have gotten slightly burned, but I'm still happy with the purchase and looking forward to even better mileage!

I think dealers can ask whatever the market can bear--like any other accessory item. You should have a 60 day cancellation period with full refund written in the policy. Something to think about, depending how much of that $500 or so you'd like back in your pocket.
