parts and labor: $6,400
Called a couple of places and hope I have options other than pay the entire bill or go without.

Ouch, sorry to hear about your situation, but I'm very interested to hear what happens considering we've got two Insights on their way to the end of their warranties. Keep posting every detail of your experience with the battery.

Hey Delta Flyer:
I would suggest you take the time to contact Honda (regional or US) to see if they will help with the cost of replacement parts and/or labor on a good faith basis.
That would seem like something they might be willing to do.

Glad it's working out Chuck. I can't wait til mine goes out and these recals may get fixed. When I drive around town and not on the highway it seems like I can't get past half charge, driving around town for me still has speeds of 45-55 mph.

Well, my IMA battery finally came in. and the MCM and BCM.
AFter a month in the rental I finally have my car back!
The first thing i noticed was that even though the outside temperature was in the upper 30s my Insight went into autostop for the first time in winter months! Last winter (my first in the car) it never went into autostop - I just assumed that it was too cold. So, I'll see if it makes a difference to my mpg.
