Re: Wow, -14 degrees this morning!
Here' a few dumb ?? msantos. When I install the block heater, do I need to completely flush the cooling system with only 28K miles on the car. Additionally, how do I bleed any air out of the system, using the heater perhaps? I figure it's better to ask than get stuck in the middle of the project.

Re: Wow, -14 degrees this morning!
With the pipe insulation in just the upper grills and temps at -8 and -23 with wind chill I was able to get 41mpg on my 15-minute morning commute and the car was able to sustain normal operating temps.
Pipe insulation is a must-do winter mod for the HCHII.
Cheers, nf
P.S. Post duplicated in pipe insulation thread for reference.

What are you waiting for noflash, block the bottom. I drive in temp. up to 60 Deg. without problems. I make sure the temp indiciator is on when temp warm up. I have never had the needle past half or the fan come on for that matter! H

I did the opposite of noflash. I insulated only the bottom of the grille.
I think the upper grille slots on the HCH I are slimmer than those on the HCH II, but I'm not sure about that.
Our temps here don't get anywhere near -14 though. Brr.
