What I Want For X-mas

What I Want For X-mas
A display on the back of my HCH-2 that has: 1) The miles I have gone on this tank, 2) The average MPG for this tank, and 3) My current MPG. This would show people that hybrids DO get great gas mileage, and how their driving affects their gas mileage. Or maybe it shows I am a snob. Its hard to tell sometimes...

Wait, did the LED display on that Insight say what the mpg was?
That would be cool.

Almost what you've described. Not a live feed, but the guy behind you won't know...
I'm waiting for mine to arrive; will post pics when installed

David, I LIKE that! How do you know if it's officially LEGAL in a state, I wonder?

Still waiting for UPS to come (tomorrow hopefully)
As far as legal... well, I haven't checked.
However, I am from the Bible Belt where its much easier to get forgiveness than permission

Re: What I Want For X-mas
OK, finally got the plate surround and have it installed. I wanted it connected to the ignition, so I found a lead to the rear speakers booster. It works but only when the engine is running. I think its a matter of minimal amps on that line. Hope I don't blow anything but so far, so good. (Haven't been stopped by the police... yet!)
The programming is a bit clunky; despite having 6 message slots, only one runs at a time. I wanted three to scroll back-to-back. But I found that each message holds 256 characters, so I made one message w/ all three 'statements' and it works just fine.
On to the video. I'm a Mac, so it's a silent quicktime file(no grumbling!)
