I have been reading this thread so I dared to keep driving when my lamp lit on the way to work. ~50 miles later (about 10 of which dialed my Pucker Factor to 11) I put in 12.2 US gal. Looks like I could have made it the other 15 miles to my normal gas station ($2.64 vs $2.68) but I was too chicken. Nothing more daring that driving your hybrid with no bars on I-66W right before 5. :::whew:::

My light comes on when there are two bars left. I can drive 100 miles before there are no bars. Then I stop within 15 miles to fill up. I put in 10.5-11.8 gallons at that point.

The warning light comes on with two bars left, which is according to my calcs about 80 miles until there are NO MORE bars left. After that point, there are, according to the manual, about 1.7 or 1.8 gallons left. So that means I've got about 90 miles more after the bars reach zero. I've driven pretty close to that 90 mile mark and not run out of gas. Have yet to.

Rumor has it that running out of gas WON'T leave you stranded! Some have posted that they ran out of gas, but they were still able to drive on the IMA battery. I recall one post with someone reporting they drove three miles at 15 - 20 mph. I'm not anxious to try it, but glad it's there, just in case! Another reason to drive a hybrid?!!
