Another recommendation I should have included in the original post: Minimize A/C usage by (a) tinting all side & rear windows as dark as the law allows, and (b) putting up a solar reflector under the windshield when parking for more than a few minutes.
As an alternative to (b), try to find a shady spot to park in. Of course, in these parts they're always the 1st ones snapped up!
