Can anyone tell me what their tachometer reads on 2004 Honda Civic hybrid driving around 65MPH.

 

Manual or CVT? Either way, it'll probably be somewhere in the 1800-2300 range. My '06 seems to like 2000 no matter what I do to try to get it to slip into that last CVT position.

 

I had a post a while back asking what the lowest RPM at 70 mph is (HCH-II CVT). The lowest RPM that I have been able to get at 70 mph is 2,000 RPM and sometimes at 65 mph it will be 2,000 RPM and other times it will be 1,500 RPM but it all depends on road terrain and wind and everything.

I have been concentrating lately on keeping the tach NO HIGHER than 3,000 RPM even on long hills or short, steep hills and this has tremendously helped the FE. I actually try and keep it below 2,500 RPM now while the previous month I was keeping it no higher than 3,000 RPM but there is a noticeable difference between these two plateaus. For those of you wanting a challenge - try keeping the tach below 2,500 RPM in your hilly terrain as it makes you think ahead when you are on the flat approaching the hill and increase your speed up to, say, 65 mph and keep it at 2,500 RPM climbing the hill though your speed will drop to maybe 50 mph at the top. Quite a challenge sometimes but well worth it.
