Tuesday morning, it's at 48.0. She drove 3 miles, and took a 1.2 MPG hit. This, whith close to 300 miles on the tank.
Hmm. It comes out that your wife used 0.21 gallons of gas while driving 3 miles. Normally, driving at 48 MPG you'd use 0.06 gallons for that distance. So your wife used an extra 0.15 gallons idling at Starbucks (or burning rubber around the neighborhood ). Chalk up another 40 cents to her cup of coffee and let life go on.

We just kid around about this stuff. Keep in mind this is from a woman who, on her way to have surgery, commented that my FE would be better on the ride home because she'd be a couple pounds lighter. I don't honestly care about the FE, but it's fun to razz her about it. She gives it right back. We've been together 19 years, married 16, so we've learned to play nice.

In the end it was cold engine + 2 hills + drivethru in freezing weather + long chat with Starbucks employee.
