I have the antenna on my trunk lid and I have seen no weird behavior such as this. The thing is that the antenna is almost completely passive, and there is almost no way that it could be interfering with the IMA system like that. The antenna is made of two parts electrically, a completely passive antenna element that is tuned for the reception frequency of around 2.335 GHz, and a very small line driver amplifier to help the signal get back to the tuner for processing. As for the magnet, it is a relatively low power magnet over a large surface area, the magnetic field from it would be almost completely dissipated by the sheet metal from the trunk lid.

You would need a broadcasting transmitter to get that kind of weird thing happening to the IMA. Most car companies have the sat antenna on the roof for improved reception and for aesthetic reasons. But there should be no reason not to have it on the trunk lid as long as you don't mind the way it looks and you get good reception.

My guess to Albert would be that every once and a while the IMA system automatically re-calibrates the battery pack power level (what you see on the SoC bar is just an estimate of battery pack charge level), and that can lead to a sudden drop of several bars when the recalibration happens. As for the auto-stop taking longer to engage there is a list of criteria that must be met for the auto stop to work, even a few degrees cooler can make the auto stop not come on at all. You will get used to your cars little idiosyncrasies soon enough .

I just went ahead and moved the antenna to the dash. I've had my car for 1,300 miles and it never acted this way so I was a little concerned. I took a short drive after relocating the antenna and things seem to be behaving normal again. Also, my signal is strong with no dropouts so I'm happy. I'll post pictures soon.

I just got the original sportster with car kit. I'm not good at installing things in my car and will have it done by circuit city or someone else. Is there a particular place I should tell them to set up the antenna to get the best reception? Does it depend on the car and city you live in? I was driving around with my friend who just got sirius in his car (Eclipse 02) and there was a lot of static. He had a starmate though. Any thoughts? I have a 03 HCH.

 

Was there any tricks to getting the cable from the trunk past the battery pack, to the dash of the car? I haven't looked close at my 06, but was wondering if it was tricky. Did you do it, or a "installer"?

Been thinking of XM or Sirus...but wondering about antenna. Saw one pix about it on the dash, with the slope of the new windshild, that would probably work as well.

Hello,

Just bought an 06 HCH yesterday, and was searching the net for the best way to install my Sirius, and cam eacross this thread.

I really like the idea of running it under the passenger seats into the trunk, but had a question. Is this easy to accomplish by just removing the trunk lining, and finding the right hole, or did it require anything special, like removing the seats or what not. I want tofigure out the best way before i actually start taking the lining out or whatever I need to do. Thanks in advance,

I just checked handaaccessories.com and it says this:

Genuine Honda Civic auxillary audio jack. Mounts in console for easy access. Allows audio connection to portable audio devices.
(not for hybrid)

Is this true? Does anyone have a 06 HCH with the auxillary audio jack?

 

Hey Steve,

If you remove the trunk lining and pull the edge of the right side rear passanger bench, you will see an opening to the trunk. Its towards the upper part. I used a coat hanger to thread it through. Its pretty simple.
