Default Low mileage & Factory warranty on 2008 Civic Hybrid

I bought this civic hybrid about 11 months back and so far it has been good. However, the mileage is only between 35 to 40 and rarely goes over or touches 40 actually. Is this normal, or can it be due to driving habits that can be modified?

I drive about 65 miles daily, mostly highway but that can sometimes be stop and go... Typically drive about 70-75 mph on highway when I can.

Also, this was a certified vehicle from dealer, but I believe with me driving 12,000 miles that warranty is used up already. Car has about 61,000 miles currently - is it a good idea to get extended warranty especially as the repairs are expensive? I live in Texas so the IMA battery warranty has already expired, which is mostly what I am concerned about.

Thanks in Advance,
Ram.
