Cool Looking

Well the rising gas prices have taken there toll. Wife and I are going to try and ride in to Tulsa together starting this week. We had also planed buying another Accord of the 06 kind. And we will look at a 06 sedan 14, 5mt LX-se. BUT the more we talk and chew on this we are going to give the civics a good look and yes, the hybred. Now this all depends on how the commuting to Tulsa works out. And to see if we think we can do it long term. This will add alot of time to the wifes day. She has a good job, shorter hours good pay and very relaxed. She also does a fare amount of running around Tulsa to do Co. things and getting paid mileage. This could be a win win or a pain pain. It will also give me a good idea of real world mpg on the Accord and a good baseline to justify what car we do buy as our second car or as our daily shared Tulsa ride.

Im impressed with the new hybred civic from what Ive read. The new engine, hybred a/c, electric motor and battery pack are the attention getters. And I think it will also run on electric motor more like a Toyota. Please correct me if Im wrong. Im not as impressed with the new sedan body style or eclectic interior/dash and the wheels are to throw up for. And we have agreed that it will be a 5 speed if honda still offers it. If not the hybred will not be bought or consedored at that point. Ive seen to many CVT's shell in the industrial world. there not ready for prime time IMO.

The HX coupe is in the running for it good mpg and price. Hard to justify a hybred if its still made in 06. As well as a ex sedan for it comphy features and good mpg. The ex sedan Accord has spoiled us.

I very much look forward to comments and imput about the coming 06 civic hybred. Honda may have taken a major leap forward or atleast up with Toyota.

If one is going to be purchased it will have to be within the next 6 months. As fuel prices keep going up, so will the sale prices on small FE cars.

The 06 Civic isn't going to come as a MT, just CVT. The EV mode will just be for low speed cruising, it won't be able to start off in electric-only, and when it's in electric mode the engine will still be spinning, like Toyota's 'warp stealth' mode for high speed EV mode.

God Why would they just do CVT??? That really wizzes me off. Wife and I have chatted about this just in the last hour. Slaps collage grads around with a crank shaft from a 426 hemi for not doing a 5mt if this is true. Wife likes the automatic. I feel ill...

payshack, it certainly isn't too late to pick up a 2005 MT. Even if you don't buy for another few months you should keep it in mind.

Why don't you think CVT is up for prime time? It's been around forever. Honda tried to use it in F1 and soon after it was banned from the sport... why? Too good. I have the CVT and 60K miles on it. And no signs of trouble. My friend is a service manager at a Honda dealership and he has yet to see a CVT failure at his shop. Please post your evidence as to why CVT is bad?

Ive seen them fail for years in industrial applictions. Subaru had no real luck with them. Ive yet to see one go 150k in a car. Not one. My Justiy shot craps at 20k on its CVT and was never right again. I would love to be proven wrong on my ideas about them. And to base anything on F1 rules is ,, well kinda flakey. Thats a politcal whiners ball if there ever was one. Are there any holding up in ralley or endurance racing? Ive had one and Im sure there better than the one in my Justiy. And Im sure if one can be done right it would be the asian big three that could do it. Which begs to differ,, if there so good and stable,,, why havent they replaced the common hydro automatic? Theyve been a common tranny on the fringe now for what 30 years and havent taken hold yet.

I wish you and all others good luck on them and hope to hear more good stuff about them in the coming months as the wife and I look over our choices on our next auto purchase. I would like to hear from some folks that have Muranos or how ever its spelled. I belive the CVT is used in that rig and is more than likely the most stressful use of CVT yet in street auto. Its not like a hypermiler will lay the coals to one and see what kinda stance it will take.

I don't need any luck. You should just get the facts straight. It's a Honda, please post news on any Honda CVT failing. The HX has had it for a lot longer then HCH. I've not heard of any CVT failing. I don't want to hear about Suburu, I want to hear about Honda's CVT.

As to taken over the standard auto... they are. Car manufacturer after car manufacturer are offering a CVT in their lineup. Let's see, audi, mini, honda, toyota, ... to name a few.

There have been plenty of posts of CVT failures on the Civic HX yahoo group and there have been numerous posts of CVT failures/replacements on this board as well. There was also the commercial company that picked up a few hybrids and had CVT failures in both their vehicles by 100k miles. I'm not going to say it's a bad transmission, especially since it seems like Honda screwed up the early V6 4-speed automatic transmissions even worse (hundreds of thousands of units recalled already) but sometimes I wonder what they were thinking. Automatic transmission reliability seems to have been Honda's weakness for years.

Ok. now post a comparison of the number of manual transmission failing (along with the number of failures in a standard auto), of the same type of car. You will find that it doesn't fail more often.
