Re: IKEA gave me my own parking spot in front of the store!!!
I thought every Ikea was doing it- but the article did mention Calgary (so maybe they are testing the idea out and will roll it out to other stores).
Ironically, Alberta generates a lot of the gas we all use- so to see Ikea do this in Calgary (HQ for a lot of oil and gas companies in Canada), is quite a statement.

The Hybrid parking spots have been available here in Ottawa (Canada) for some time now. I don't necessarily agree with the idea but don't complain. Ikea parking lots are insanely busy so its great now.
I guess the idea is to give more incentives to people for owing hybrids which might further spur interest. As I said ... no complaints from me. And so far I haven't seen any other cars parked on those spots.

[quote=JavaJ I was impressed, but also a little dissapointed- they obviously used 2 handicap parking spaces (and prime ones at that). So I am not sure if I should feel bad that there are less handicap spots, or feel worse that hybrid owners are considered handicapped. [/quote]
But were those handicap spaces ever occupied? I suspect they made the best of an otherwise waste of space.

Actually, they used the first 2 Handicap spots in front of the Exit doors.
I can leave quicker but have a little walk to the front door (still closer than if I were to park anywhere else).
Still, to promote it is good- but for Ikea to promote it seems also backwards- I am going to be able to shop more but have to pay for the big gas-guzzling deliver truck to bring all my stuff home.
